On May 21, a meeting of the updated members of the Club of Experts under the Senate took place, dedicated to topical issues of the country’s economic development. The meeting was chaired by the Speaker of the Chamber, Maulen Ashimbaev. Representatives of the World Bank in Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan Andrey Mikhnev and the famous economist Azamat Agaydarov took part in the meeting.

Opening the meeting, Maulen Ashimbaev emphasized the importance of high-quality expert assessment for the formation of new approaches to the development of the national economy.
The meeting participants discussed the research results and potential risks presented in the World Bank report. Particular attention was paid to issues such as slowing economic stimulus, economic inequality and the low share of wages in GDP.

Maulen Ashimbaev focused the attention of experts on the need to carry out structural reforms and develop new, non-standard approaches to the development of the national economy.

“Head of State Kassym-Jomart Kemelevich Tokayev, in his September Address, outlined a course towards building a new model of economic development. And today we see concrete results in this direction. The President of the country signed a Decree on measures to liberalize the economy. It is aimed at guaranteeing the inviolability of private property and freedom of enterprise, as well as reducing state participation in the economy. The country now faces ambitious targets to double its economy by 2029. Therefore, in conditions of global uncertainty, the search for new, non-standard approaches to economic development becomes critically important,” said Maulen Ashimbaev.

The Club's experts voiced a number of recommendations aimed at developing new tools for managing the national economy, including measures to improve the tax system. The possibilities of joint projects and formats for further interaction were also discussed.

First Vice-Minister of National Economy Timur Zhaksylykov, Dean of the International School of Economics at Maqsut Narikbayev University Saule Kemelbayeva, Managing Director of the Applied Economics Research Center Evgenia Pak, macroanalyst Ayakoz Khanet and other experts also spoke at the meeting.

During the meeting, new members of the Expert Club were introduced. Executive Director for Support of the Institute of Parliamentarism under the UDP of the Republic of Kazakhstan Zhanar Tulindinova became a member of the Club. It should be noted that for the first time in almost four years of the Club’s activity, a rotation of its members was carried out. The composition renewal exceeded 60%.
