Today, the Institute of Parliamentarism under the UDP of the Republic of Kazakhstan, together with deputies of the Senate Committee on Agrarian Issues, Environmental Management and Rural Development, held a round table on the topic: "Problems of solid household waste and their disposal. Issues of further improvement of the ROP".
Chairman of the Senate Committee Ali Bektayev said that last year about 4 million tons of solid household waste were generated in Kazakhstan, of which 24% were recycled and disposed of. He noted that according to the concept of Kazakhstan's transition to a "green economy", it is planned to increase this indicator to 50% by 2050, which requires comprehensive measures.
Kanatbek Safinov, Director of the Institute of Parliamentarism at the UDP of the Republic of Kazakhstan, in his speech stressed the active participation of the Institute of Parliamentarism in solving waste management problems. He noted that the Institute has already held several workshops on this topic on February 28 and June 4, 2024, at which various aspects of waste management and the search for ways to improve them were discussed.
Safinov stressed that it is necessary to involve the population in waste sorting, providing an opportunity to earn money for participating in this process. He also proposed to review the spending directions within the framework of the ROP, dividing the recycling payments of the automotive industry from other payments. He expressed the opinion that waste management should be regulated by a separate law, and not only by the Environmental Code, which will make it possible to organize this process more effectively.
Vice Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Zhomart Aliyev, Chairman of the Association of Processors of Secondary Raw Materials Batyrbek Aubakirov and other specialists also spoke during the round table.
The round table was also attended by Deputy Director of the Institute of Parliamentarism Lyazzat Suleimenov, Executive Director for Analytical Work Dauren Adilbekov and head of the Center for Private Legislation Meruert Kabylbayeva.
