Today in Astana, a round table was held on the topic “Enhancing the Role and Potential of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan by Strengthening Parliamentary Transparency in Accordance with the Basic Principles of the Declaration on Parliamentary Openness.” The event was attended by L.Zh. Suleimen, Deputy Director of the Institute of Parliamentarism.
The main goal of the event was to create a platform to discuss the importance of the Declaration on Parliamentary Openness and the possibilities of its implementation in Kazakhstan’s legislative activities. Participants discussed how strengthening parliamentary transparency can enhance the openness of legislative bodies’ work and increase citizens’ trust in them.
Members of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan, representatives of government agencies, non-governmental organizations, civil society, and experts in democracy, open governance, and law participated in the round table. International partners with experience in parliamentary transparency, including representatives from the OSCE Program Office in Astana, also took part in the event.
During the discussion, experts and participants considered the key provisions of the Declaration, such as data openness, access to information, and citizens’ participation in the legislative process. Participants particularly emphasized the importance of implementing these principles to improve the efficiency of the Parliament and other state institutions.
Additionally, recommendations were developed on applying the principles of parliamentary transparency in the practical activities of Kazakhstan’s Parliament. This involves creating a long-term program to integrate these standards into legislative processes.
